It is so, so hard to pick just one… so being allowed multiple responses is fantastic.

the summer soldier, by @irishais , is brutal. No war ends so tidily as Final Fantasy 8 did, with everyone happy. To say much more would ruin this, but… there is alcohol abuse, there is PTSD, there is resistance to therapy, there are two very messed up young men trying to make sense of a world that almost ended and the things they’ve been left with now that it hasn’t. I don’t know how to summarize this because it hurts so damn much and I love it.
