i do not want to go back to how I looked when I got married, and so –
where the fuck are the training guides for women who DO want to actually build muscle and DO actually want to look “manly”
because I’m sure as shit not finding any
like. am I just going to have to use a program targeted at men and work twice as hard? how do I get arms like a 19th century circus strongwoman, because those women sure as hell didn’t have access to “Vitamin T”, or other, legal-er supplements…
this is probably just a case of not knowing how to make the currently befucked search engines work for me, but please, for gods’ sake, if anyone among you has an idea of where to start, please share.
DO NOT TRY TO PERSUADE PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE AT THE POLLS.
DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY KIND OF POLITICAL DISCOURSE AT THE POLLS.
NO ELECTION IS EVER A SURE THING, EVEN IF YOU’RE IN THE BLUEST OR REDDEST OF STATES. IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN SIT THIS ONE OUT, THEY ARE EITHER IGNORANT OR MALICIOUS.
“After various requests, I have gotten Trevor to braid my hair for me, for the first time in years..I only hope mother would be happy with my stylings.”
tl;dr: it’s cool to just like things and of course movies can be good and fun without being “art films” but also Disney is in the process of monopolizing the popular film industry and art cinema should be made more available to mass audiences so that people have choices and late stage capitalism is ruining the film industry even more
I wish the over saturation of the market with superhero movies hadn’t made me like totally sick of them at this point bc I adore Brie and I remember I was really pumped for captain marvel when they first announced it, but now I just
Like
Don’t even care
the marvel/Disney/Star Wars fandom is the superwholock of this contemporary era like you ppl need to stop
you’re being manipulated by Disney corporate bs into giving them money in exchange for formulaic movies that are okay at best as standalone pieces but placed side by side are an entirely homogeneous media
like I haven’t seen any of the new Star Wars so I can’t really speak for those but every marvel movie and every Pixar movie is literally the same as every other marvel or Pixar movie
And like it’s cool to just enjoy things don’t get me wrong but let’s not pretend that these movies are anything other than blantant cash grabs
tbh if as many people saw moonlight or carol or skate kitchen or pariah or the florida project or any number of beautiful and important works of film as the amount of people who saw captain America: winter soldier, the film industry would be in a much better place bc there would be a balance of availability
There’s this idea that mass audiences just don’t like art cinema because no one sees it, but really no one sees it because most theaters don’t screen those movies. People would go if they had greater access to them, and that’s starting to change in cities like here in nyc, but people in smaller communities don’t always have those opportunities
the era of the art blockbuster is over, you know? Studios aren’t marketing films that are technically and artistically quality as box office successes.
A movie can either be like total drivel and get a mass audience and make millions, or it can be a critically acclaimed art peice that three people watch
art films are taking over shows like the academy awards, which is the real reason I think that viewership is down. People haven’t seen the movies that are nominated so they don’t care!
if mass audiences had more access to art films, I really feel like they would love them, and for studios and theater chains to continue to emphasize marvel movies and similar fair is to patronize audiences and to insult them. There’s this idea that the reason mass audiences wouldn’t want to see art movies is because they don’t understand them, but that’s not even true.
or, people think they won’t like art movies because art movies are all dark and depressing, which is also not true
Again, there’s nothing wrong with just for fun movies, but the problem is that the industry is so over-saturated with them and that an alarming percentage of those movies are making a profit for Disney, which is slowly monopolizing the entertainment industry with each new acquisition
I’ve been saying forever that the homogeneous nature of the movies available to filmgoers is gonna tank Hollywood and make cause art cinema to rise into the spotlight and that’s exactly what’s starting to happen like and the rise of A24 has been evidence of it alongside the inclusion of truly independent films in venues like the academy awards I mean moonlight’s Oscar was a turning point, even if it’s taking a little time for that turn to complete.
I just want to spread my love of cinema to everyone I promise and I’m also like so sick of hearing about how these mediocre movies are like brilliant and subversive works! Because! They’re not! this is what late stage capitalism is doing to cinema!
pls just like go watch skate kitchen if it’s still in theaters near you okay it’s my fave movie this year so far you’ll love it
Listen my dudes Ancient Egypt existed for a really fuckass long time. Literally just Pharaonic civilization lasted 3,000 years. That’s not even including predynastic civilization and Roman rule. If you lump that in you’re looking at more like… 5,000 years.
Like. If you want a comparison of how long that is: THE YEAR IS CURRENTLY 2018. TWO THOUSAND. TWO-THIRDS OF ANCIENT EGYPTIAN PHARAONIC CIVILIZATION HAVE HAPPENED SINCE THE ‘BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST’
We comparatively just entered the Third Intermediate Period. The Greeks will not take over for another 700~ years. Cleopatra will not be born until the year 2931.
It’s a really long time guys.
Anyway look. Listen. I sat my ass down and wrote out a timeline of “when shit happened if you started at 1AD” because I know backwards numbers are hard to process but here’s an abridged version.
If the first Egyptian Pharaoh came to power in 1AD then…
300: step pyramid built
450: Great Pyramid at Giza built
815: Pepi II dies and civil war breaks out
950: Egypt re-unified
1350: Middle Kingdom ends
1450: New Kingdom begins
1520: Hatshepsut is on the throne
1650: Ahkenaten switches to monotheistic religion and builds a new city
1680: Tutankhamun dies
1720: Ramesses II ‘the great’ ascends to the throne
1740: World’s first peace treaty signed 1790: Ramesses II dies leaving way too many children
1920: Egypt breaks into 2 states again
And now we get to ~~~~the future~~~~. If we started at 1AD all of this stuff hasn’t happened yet
2050: Briefly re-united as a single state
2180: Civil war 2250: Nubian kings take over
2335: Assyrian conquest
2665: Alexander the Great conquers Egypt
2930: Cleopatra VII born
2970: Cleopatra VII dies. Egypt falls to Rome. Fin.
And that’s just starting with the Pharaohs. If you wanted to start with Predynastic Egypt, you can go ahead and ADD ONE THOUSAND YEARS to all of those dates
I hate that this is still getting notes but that it’s getting notes *without the timeline addition* like c’mon, man. I had to do MATHS for this. I DID MATHS FOR YOU PEOPLE AND ALL I GOT WAS A BUNCH OF RACISTS
